Swiss Music Export is a Non-Profit-Organisation and a joint venture run by Pro Helvetia, Stiftung Phonoproduzierende, Fondation SUISA, Fondation CMA, Swissperform and Schweizerische Interpretenstiftung SIS.
SME defines itself as the Swiss organisation responsible for the export of contemporary pop music. In order to be able to fulfil this task in an efficient manner, SME is constantly assessing and developing its structures and resources as well as its positioning in the market.
Swiss Music Export’s activities are focused on contemporary pop music. “Pop” is defined by SME in its broadest way as “music whose business methods fall within the framework of pop or rock music and which can usefully be supported with the tools available to SME”.
Swiss Music Export supports the work of artists identified as having a realistic chance of success in their respective target market. Their music must show clear export potential. They must also demonstrate the existence of a realistic and promising export plan. In its support of such plans, SME may decide on individual focus points.
The work of Swiss Music Export is generally focused on Europe, especially the German and French speaking music markets. Exceptions in other markets are possible.
