Biography
Ledian Mola was born in 1993, in Cuba and moved to San Sebastian in Basque Country in 2010. He began his musical studies at age 5 on violin studies at the Guillermo Tomás Conservatory in Havana. In 2014 Mola graduated from the Conservatory of Barakaldo Spain. He then went on to study Jazz Double Bass at Musikene, where he created his first stable ensemble, Albericolá, with whom he developed his personal vision of improvisation. After these experience, he received a lot of attention and recognition for his playing. This recognition resulted in invitations to collaborate with Spanish jazz musicians such as Roger Mas, Guillermo McGill, Albert Sanz, Enrique Oliver, Iñigo Ruiz de Gordejuela, Ramón Prat.
Currently he is in the process of recording a duo album with the Cuban drummer Francisco Mela, one of the most prestigious Cuban musicians in the international jazz scene, having played for 10 years with McCoy Tyner. Mela others collaborators also include such great musicians as Joel Lovano, Esperanza Spalding and Kenny Barron. The opportunity to play together with Mela opened the possibilities for the Cuban jazz music to have contact with the most avant garde current of jazz, which led to a new sound in both styles. In 2022, Mola moved to Basel to start his Master degree in Performance at Jazz Campus. There, he is developing his interpretation and approach to composition in the aesthetics of the most traditional jazz and the currents of European jazz, seeking to continue with his artistic and professional development.
