Bio Jacqui
Jacqui was born and bred in Zambia, Africa and comes from a music lovin’ family. From a very young age she was singing soul music in bars with her sister and brother while “hippie Mom” played the piano.
Jacqui fell in love with electronic music the first time she heard in 1994 and has mixed and bought records regularly since then. She has worked in the “milieu” for years, booking for many events and clubs in and around Switzerland. (Electronic music booking for 5 years for the Veaudoux Club in Monthey then bookings for the then unknown Lee van Dowski, Quenum, Agnés, Chaton etc)
Booking and management took up most of her time until she became resident at “La CauseTek” (literally “The Talk Tek”) in Lausanne before starting the legendary underground “La BlablaTek” and since then has worked at her djing skills seriously. Many artists and live acts such as Mirweis Sangin, Digaline (Laps & Gregorhyme), Pompelmoessap, Juan Baeza and Masaya made their debuts there. La CauseTek is now in its 8th year and still on every Thursday night in Lausanne.
She is regularly in Tribal Zone Studios with Frank Master; they have released on www.harrykleinnetworks.de and is in close collaboration with Masaya in the studio…news soon.
Jacqui presents a live radio program once a month on local Radio Chablais called “LIVE DJ” The program is dedicated to djing and focuses on motivating new talent.
Her musical influences are wide and varied and this can be felt in her music where she finds it difficult to abide to one particular “style” At first she was tempted by techno / hard techno and was greatly influenced by artists such as Dave Clark…etc. then swerved to darker Electro (Neil Landstrum and such) before finding herself doing what she really loves: groovy clicks ‘n cuts.
She also does 60s /70s funky soul /Disco as aka Motown Mama. She best describes her music as “shake ‘ya ass music” and now sticks to anything that has a groove to it, be it Minimal techno, Tekhouse, Groovy Electro or FunkyTek.
MiniShake is her more recent concept, promoting new upcoming talent. Pheek, Bruno Pronsato, Dilo, Sebastien Herre, Mike Wall, Red Robin, Dan Berkson &James What and Kabal und Liebe, Wla Garcia, Red Robin or Dario Zenker are but a few of many guests in a concept which moves around Switzerland in clubs such as La Ruche (Lausanne), Piping Club (Geneva), Formbar (Bern) and Sounderground (Lucerne). Small, intimate parties where the artists are at ease, the public eager listeners and where “in the good dj we trust” have made MiniShake Parties important dates in most minimal lover’s agendas.
Jacqui is best behind the turntables, as a performing artist, her warm character and antics make her a local favorite.
