...THE MOONLING! The spectacular, freaky and theatrical space rock band with psychedelic sound and pompous stage show.!
The core of THE MOONLING's sonic solar system is rock music. But it is orbited by many disparate, ragged moons. Out of the craters of these moons sound feverish waltzes, melancholic piano tones and bizarre street organ music. Or, in other words: This is what it would sound like if Pink Floyd shared a practice space with Tom Waits, Rammstein and Muse – a circus caravan maintained by Franz Kafka.
The surreal science fiction world of THE MOONLING is full of strange stories and characters. Frontman Sebastian Möhr sings – sometimes in German, sometimes in English, often alternating – of stranded astronauts, moonstruck robots, shady masquerades, broken toys and hypnotic puppeteers. In their second concept album, "Of Toys And Their Master's Voice" (released in October 2017), subjects like evolution and creation myths meet the digital revolution. An album between man and machine, Adam and android, bible and blade runner, where everything revolves around the question: Who is the master? And who the servant?
In their multimedia-based performances THE MOONLING turn the concert venue into a delirium. A hysterically laughing mad hatter leads through a freak show ceremony full of atmospheric film sequences, accompanied by the booming sound of the dubiously dressed-up ensemble.
The demonstratively grandiose and technophile band has previously integrated a snow cannon, pyrotechnics, water curtains and a hovering drum platform into their gigs. This way of performing led them also to the theatre stage, where they provided the soundtrack, stage design and parts of the script of the 2014 futuristic satire theatre production, "Mensch Made In.”
Whoever lets THE MOONLING off the leash gets more than a band. And the best part: The MOONLING’s spectacle works on stages of all sizes.
