Biography
Til Hänggi alias Wellenbad is a composer, pianist and percussionist from Basel, Switzerland. with the piano (not infrequently also on the marimba, vibraphone, djembe, cajon or lunga drum), which he describes as his laboratory, he experiments with repetitive, rhythmic and kind of tidy sound patterns. with this he tries to make the multilayered sounds and the overlapping partly confusing rhythms accessible to the listener. often natural phenomena or observations of nature or social interactions are the origin of his ideas and musical interpretations. music should create space to process, realize and accept heavy and light thoughts. Til explains that the piano pieces when listened to openly one comes into a special kind of focus which creates kind of a microcosm. with his debut album Recur he releases his first work with four piano pieces. all of them are about the recurrence in life and he poses the question if in this point societal phenomena are similar to natural patterns. is it the belief in recurrence or the immediate effect of experiencing it?
