Dawn was founded in 1992 by Krešimir Pisonic (vocals, bass and guitars), matthias vonwil (guitars and vocals), stefan chiovelli (guitars) and franco chiovelli (drums). they met the first time on Saturday, 5th of september, shortly after kresimir played a legendary gig with members of nada and licht&blindheit at an old butchery in a squatted house.
At their first rehearsal, they composed their first song within an hour and it soon became clear that their getting together should not be just for hanging around, but for playing good and serious music. Only two months later, dawn gave their first concert together with neureich sonnenseite at the famous halls of the wärchhof. Guest musician was jimmy frey who played the violin on “end of the world”. It was one of the many legendary events organised by licht&blindheit and dawn was very proud of playing there (the party was called: herbstsein).
In 1993, dawn played a gig at the jailhouse rock festival at the sedel. Result of this festival was a sampler (93 sädel), on which dawn performed “inbetween realities”, a timeless piece and the only one officially released by the band.
Then, all of a sudden, dawn disappeared in 1994 with a lot of unreleased songs of much potential. And what never should have been forgotten was lost… It was after the millennium when the vision of a dawn-record took hold of the restless mind of vonwil and haunted him until the day he decided to give the world back what it had deserved. he was amazingly happy to convince two of the most famous and talented musicians of the small town, andy jossi (guitar, mysterious and never heard by audience) and urs Schumacher (drums, member of the famous red rain coats), to join the project. Together, they rehearsed the dawn songs and additionally wrote a new one also to be heard on the record. In august 2006, they went to the foolpark studio and unexpectedly, kresimir pisonic and stefan chiovelli joined them.
So the first record of dawn will finally be released on the churchill garden label in winter 2007.
