Electric Puma presents “Eleven”, the first
single from this new project, available
November 7, 2025 on all streaming
platforms.
Initially conceived as something
completely new, the project unexpectedly
brought back a few unfinished demos from
2012 that had never really left her. From
these fragments of the past, new songs
were born — and this creative process also
inspired entirely fresh compositions.
“Eleven” will be followed by a second
single, co-produced with Mark Daumail /
Cocoon, continuing this musical journey.
Mastered at Metropolis Studios in
London by Matt Colton (The Cure, The
Rolling Stones), Electric Puma stands out
with a warm, textured sound, where
emotion always takes center stage.
Bio:
Electric Puma is the new solo project of Valérie Martinez, a self-taught Franco-
Spanish composer and performer based in Geneva.
Known until now under the name Martinez, and also as a member of The Woohoo
(alongside musician and illustrator Zep), she unveils an intimate project, entirely
conceived and crafted by her own hands.
For Electric Puma, she wanted to compose, arrange, record, and mix the songs in
full immersion at home, in order to fully express her artistic vision — while
occasionally being supported by a few close friends, including Joe Baamil, who
contributed to the mixing, and Mark Daumail / Cocoon, who co-produced one of the
tracks.
The result is a return to an intuitive and organic approach, blending modern folk,
indie pop, warm acoustic textures, and ’80s-inspired synths.
Martinez began her career in 2007 with her first project, Jailyna. Signed to the Yes I
Am label, she recorded her debut album Rough in Philadelphia, at the legendary
studio of Larry Gold, a key figure of the Motown era. The album brought together
some of the finest musicians from the Philadelphia scene, including Anthony Tidd
(The Roots) and Eric Wortham (Adele). Under the name Jailyna, she later recorded
an EP in Miami, at Lenny Kravitz’s Setai Studio, collaborating with musicians from
both Philadelphia and Switzerland.
She then continued her career under the name Martinez.
Initially performing as a duo with Yvan Bing, they released the EP Off The Shore,
whose single “Maryam” received significant airplay across Europe. Later on, she
pursued the project solo and released the album The Road in 2019, co-produced with
Joe Baamil.
In 2018, Robert Smith (The Cure) personally invited Martinez and the band to
perform at the Meltdown Festival in London, counting them among his favorite new
discoveries of the year.
With Electric Puma, Valérie Martinez unveils a project of artistic freedom and
maturity — one that remains faithful to her journey, yet more deeply rooted in her
true essence. She draws from a wide range of influences — from Prince to Motown,
from vintage soul to contemporary indie pop — to create music that feels both
organic and electronic, radiant and introspective.
