Hi ! I produce ambient pop with Juno, MEGAfm and Cosmos. ♡
On her new EP «Lay Down My Name», Swiss artist ELYN (St. Gallen) weaves ambivalence and contradiction into four hauntingly intense songs. With her uniquely captivating voice, she takes listeners on a flight through inner emotional landscapes. Viennese producer Kimyan Law gives shape to the finely balanced piano and vocal melodies as well as the ethereal layers of analog synthesizers, to create a sound that is both distinct and deeply immersive.
Following her self-produced album, ELYN—who has garnered attention for her cross-genre collaborations with Swiss rappers Manillio and Greis, as well as dream-pop producer Wassily—was supported in the production of this EP by Viennese artist and musician Kimyan Law. The two previously collaborated, co-writing four songs for his last two albums, which received airplay on Radio FM4 and Radio Ö1, among others.
When we talk about pop music, there is often a lingering aftertaste, of easily digestible themes, that trickle through our ears like insignificant ripples, leaving no lasting impact. The songs of ELYN’s new EP, however, are something entirely different: they move deeply and resonate long after listening. While, the title track, «Lay Down My Name», is a powerful call to let go of one’s name and everything attached to it, to focus on what unites us. In contrast, the dialect song «Ha di gseh verschwinde» tells the haunting story of a friendship slowly unraveling. In «Long Sleep’s Over», conflicting emotions collide, building the signature density of ELYN’s arrangements—where warm, interwoven sounds and multi-layered analog synthesizers are held together by the piano accompaniment and restrained yet at times driving rhythmic elements. The song «I Heard the River Cry II», originally featured as a stripped-down piano and vocal piece on her album, has been re-recorded for this EP to further emphasize the depth of its lyrics.
Though the songs on «Lay Down My Name» grapple with seemingly unresolvable tensions, the music itself achieves the opposite: it instills the courage to find calm and confidence in ambiguities that are difficult to endure, in persistently unresolved states- so that we may remain capable of action and engagement.
