The band Naghma was founded in the summer of 2003 by Monika and Majid Tiken. Both of them had lived in the USA for several years, where they had participated in different musical projects. Majid had the opportunity to perform with well-known musicians, such as Cheb Nasro, Hassan Hakmoun, and Chebba Zehwania. Monika graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston and has been composing and arranging for several projects, including for Naghma.
All songs are original compositions from Monika and Majid Tiken. The style is a mixture of North African rhythms and melodies with latin, reggae, and funk, and lives from the experiences and backgrounds of the multicultural musicians from NaGHma. The music is very entertaining, thanks to the original sound and the vigorous rhythms from the Essahbi brothers, who are already well known in Switzerland and Morocco. Majid Tiken, who sings in several languages, covers the whole spectrum from traditional North African melodies to traditional occidental music. The moroccan rhythms build a surprising and astonishing connection with other styles of music that enchant listeners and makes you want to dance.
