Leanor Wolf is an electronic duo blending electronica, trip-hop, and alternative textures into a distinctive “romance noir” sound. With just two performers and a streamlined live rig, they deliver the impact of a full band in dynamic, unforgettable performances.
Emmanuelle Nkowane, known as Leanor, is a Swiss multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer whose music bridges jazz, funk, and contemporary sounds. Formally trained in jazz saxophone at HEMU, she also earned a Master’s in Music Pedagogy at HEM Geneva. She has performed in jazz, salsa, and boogaloo ensembles, and contributed to various theatre productions.
Since taking up the bass in 2020, she formed her Leanor Wolf project in 2022, where bass guitar, songwriting, and voice take center stage. Her vocals feature on Letters From the Atlantic (2025), the latest release by acclaimed American jazz-funk band Butcher Brown. Founder of Geneva’s non-profit La Tanière, Leanor continues to shape a unique artistic voice — fusing instrumental mastery with soulful, genre-crossing expression.
Julio Mwansa Nkowane, known as Wolf, is a US-born, Swiss-based artist of Zambian heritage. A lyricist and poet, his music reflects on the human condition through an eclectic blend of styles. Performing under the name Rootwords, he earned recognition with the Swiss Live Talent Award (2012), the M4Music Urban Award (2013), and a nomination at the Swiss Music Awards (2018, Best Act Romandie).
Wolf has appeared on major stages including Label Suisse, Montreux Jazz Festival, Paléo Festival, and Jazz Onze, while touring internationally from South Africa to Beijing and Peru with support from Swiss Music Export, Pro Helvetia, and the City of Geneva. In 2018, he founded The Wolf Den Studios, where he broadened his work into production, mixing, mastering, and visual media—developing projects such as Leanor Wolf.
Leanor Wolf bring cinematic soundscapes to life, combining studio-level precision with the raw energy of the stage — every performance delivers immersive, unforgettable music. Fans of Portishead and Gorillaz will recognise echoes of their genre-crossing, atmospheric, and emotionally rich approach.
