Alt_R stands for “alternative,” the scene in which he built his musical world back in the days of Geneva’s many squats. Or “old R” (for German speakers), since a lot of time has passed since then. It wasn’t until later that he realized rock no longer appealed to him and that he began to love dancing to techno and electro. He decided to give it a try, because after more than 20 years of teaching geography, it was finally time to figure out what he wanted
to do when he grew up: music and performing!
Live, he uses an unfolded box on which he places a MIDI controller, a mini keyboard, and a few unlikely sound devices (noise box, light-up theremin, etc.). He performs solo or accompanied by his bassist, “Le P.” His style is “minimal-deep-tech-house,” with musical structures
influenced by the ’90s, lyrics mainly in French, and a few forays into German and English. His lyrics range from absurd ramblings to thought-provoking themes and sarcasm—but he always has a smirk on his face as soon as the audience starts moving to the beat!
