Behind the artist name Amor Fati is the Swiss duo Katrin Meier and Marcello Iacoviello. They first casually got together playing for a wedding in 2019 and they were harmonizing so well that they decided to start a music project. They both had a weakness for moody, melancholic music and soon they were writing their own songs. Marcello with his soulful hands on the keys and Katrin with her clear, vulnerable and yet powerful voice take the listeners on an emotional journey with their songs. They find inspiration from different genres and artists such as 80’s classics like Depeche Mode and JM Jarre, Italian artists like Pino Daniele, Jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald and from young talents like London Grammar and Billie Eilish, and especially for Katrin the whole universe of the singer songwriter’s way of story telling.
Katrin puts a lot of heart, honesty and vulnerability into her lyrics. She takes the listener through pain and struggles but also she inspires with hope, insights and strength by her intimate way of reflecting her life, relationships and mental health.
When they met Producer Jeroen van Vulpen in the studio, Amor Fati found another harmony, or even the piece of the puzzle that was missing to give their songs the spherical vibes we hear on their first EP Moment Of Truth. It was released in Febraury 2023. The album is covered by Andreas Hasel’s beautiful photo art with a special tribute to Basel in the background, where Katrin and Marcello both grew up.
