BARANY hangs like a dark melodious fog between your ears for some time after listening. This music is sultry and evocative with a deep rumbling undertow that complements the clean unpretentiousness of the lyrics. BARANY’s vocals are supremely silky, slipping between the gentle and whispery, and something a little grittier, riddled with harmonies and sweetly sad at times. Echoes of Portishead and Radiohead are present but with the definite stamp of originality – delicately wrought and skillfully layered, yet of a rawness that leaves this music feeling so organic and alive. Since their first live performances in 2017, BARANY has released a highly acclaimed studio album (‘Lights Disappear’, 2019) and received wide airplay, performed at coveted festivals of international renown (including Blue Balls, Zermatt Unplugged and Open Air Gampel) and toured Germany. In 2021, BARANY was nominated at the Berlin Music Video Awards for their Nirvana cover of ‘Heart-Shaped Box’. The talented British-Swiss collective's international collaborations include producers Dan Austin from the UK (Massive Attack, Biffy Clyro) and re:dasein from DE, as well as mastering mastermind Matt Colton from the UK (Thom Yorke, James Blake, Sampha). In 2022, Tanya Zimmermann, the front woman of BARANY, supported trip-hop icons Morcheeba on their tour through Switzerland, France and Germany. In 2023, BARANY released an impressive multimedia project: beguiling new songs were presented as a five-part short film, accompanied by a carefully produced album entitled Nanztal. As the highlight of the release, BARANY performed PROLOGUE live at the Capitol cinema in Brig and accompanied the short film with impressive live music. The title track Nanztal was nominated at the Demo Tape Clinic in the ‘Rock’ category.
BARANY used 2024 as a creative year - creating new songs while opening for exceptional British bands Fink and Maxïmo Park. 2025 promises to be a year full of music!
