Biography

Three years after his amazing debut „Aywa“ for brambus, the Senegal rooted Baye Magatte presents his new masterpiece „Djèm“. Again it is a modern world music release, build on the traditional roots – the reknown “Cercle de la Jeunesse de Louga“! The music of Baye Magatte is still a dynamic mixture of African percussion, combined with modern influences. An excellent array of outstanding musicians create a contemporary sound in between afro, afro-pop and even a slice of reggae. The music is a firework of African heritage and with personal lyrics, to be found in the booklet in English, German and French translation. Baye Magatte is an outstanding singer in best griot tradition and grown out of a known griot family in Senegal, currently living in Basel, Switzerland. The living sound pictures of Senegal are here combined with the influences of the western world and in a top contemporary sound !
After big shows at the famous Montreux festival, the legendary Afro-Pentacost-Festival in Winterthur and various open-air concerts, the band is touring again, starting from autumn 2011, either with the full line-up for bigger scenes or with a reduced size for clubs.
