The Winterthur duo Catbird have been moving confidently in the broad field of singer/songwriting for years and yet cannot be pigeonholed.
The original compositions by Helena Rüdisühli (voc/cello) and Andreas Mösli (git/voc) are created at home on the sofa, where the musical freedom is limitless. They tell stories from life - sometimes serious, sometimes funny or ironic, sometimes rocking, sometimes folky, sometimes cheerfully bouncing or melancholically gentle.
The two also enjoy interpreting well-known and unknown songs from a wide variety of musical genres, be it by Ben Harper, The Clash, Chris Stapleton, the Lemonheads or the bad boy Eugen, and imbue them with the typical catbird charm with which the duo has played their way into the hearts of their followers.
As broad as Catbird's musical spectrum and influences are, they are also open to collaborating with other musicians.
During the recording of their first album ‘easy as pie’, the Spartan duo transformed into an open duo with a band.
Thanks to the targeted use of additional instruments such as drums/percussion, double bass, violin, hand organ, melodica, piano, lapsteel, dobro and tuba, the songs have clearly gained in volume without losing Catbird's basic principle: the song always takes centre stage.
Catbird are currently back on the road as a duo and prefer to play on smaller stages with a living room atmosphere and a correspondingly attentive audience.
