Chris Karell is a Zurich-based Swiss artist and songwriter of Cameroonian heritage whose music exists somewhere between Alternative R&B, hip-hop, soul, pop and alternative rock. Rather than treating genre as a boundary, Chris uses it as a palette — moving between melodic songwriting, rap, soulful vocals, experimental production and deeply personal storytelling.
At the centre of his work is a simple idea: music should feel like a world, not just a collection of songs.
Chris first made his mark in 2018, winning the Urban category of m4music's Demotape Clinic — one of Switzerland's most established platforms for emerging music. Out of 797 submitted artists, he was selected as the Urban winner and received the Fondation SUISA Award. The recognition led to increased attention from Swiss radio and labels and ultimately to a signing with Radicalis. At the time, SRF Virus described his music as a dark, deep form of rap incorporating electronic elements, while Chris himself spoke about the importance of developing a sound people could recognise as his own.
Since then, he has continuously expanded that musical vocabulary. His catalogue includes the full-length project The Space Between (2020), the pop-leaning collaboration “Picket Fences” with Qlaqué, 2+7, NOCTURNAL and ALL THE STORIES UNTOLD. His work with artists including Makufeel, Qlaqué, Questbeatz and Cinnay reflects the same instinct: to move between scenes and sounds rather than remain inside one category.
That evolution has also translated into the wider Swiss music landscape. His music has received radio play in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, he has performed at festivals and toured with Swiss artist Stereo Luchs, and his songs have reached audiences through streaming, collaborations and sync placements. Two of his songs, “Center Piece” with Questbeatz and “City Lights” with Cinnay and Niketaz, were placed in Yvonne Eisenring's feature film Love Roulette, produced by Tellfilm. One of his releases has also approached one million streams independently.
Chris is now entering the most ambitious chapter of his career.
