Born in Switzerland, Giulia Dabalà spent her childhood in Burma where she discovered her passion for music. On her return to Switzerland, she involves herself in singing, piano, theater, dance and beatbox. At the age of 17, she composed Voices, her first EP, with for only instrument; the voice, through the exploration of its richness, multiple uses and textures.
At the same time, she collaborates as a composer and singer with beatboxer Arthur Henry and joins the Kenyan star Muthoni Drummer Queen for an international tour on the biggest stages including the Vieilles Charrues, Montréal Jazz Festival, WOMAD and the Paléo Festival.
Winner of the Demotape Clinic at the m4music festival in 2020, she won the Pop category as well as the Demotape of the Year. Giulia Dabalà is also the sole Swiss representative of INES Talent Showcase Europe. Master in Performance from the Basel University of Music in her pocket, she made a great tour at the festivals Les Créatives, Show-me, PALP, Electron as well as at Fri-Son, Swiss Cultural Center in Paris and Usine à Gaz, despite the pandemic.
Her first album GOLD was released this spring. The voice is no longer alone; synthesizers, piano and electronic percussion broaden the sound palette, seeking inspiration in the albums of James Blake, Sevdaliza, Les Mystères des Voix Bulgares or M.I.A. On stage, she surrounded herself with Matteo Simonin on synthesizer/vocals and Nicolas Safjan on drums/vocals.
With GOLD, Giulia Dabalà tackles different cultures and musical styles that liven her up; organic rhythms are mixed with soulful melodies to form an entire, with a pop aesthetic. She sings us the stories inspired by her experience and her reflections as a young woman in an uncertain world, in search of roots.
