Biography
HOLM - “In Gardens” ( coming 19th of January on Quiet Love Records)
A garden is a constantly changing microcosm. A place of refuge, of encounters, of dedication. A place of symbiosis, of nature both cultivated and growing wild. A garden is a metaphor that describes HOLM.
"In Gardens" came to be in the darkness of the shortest days. It's the second album that documents the musical encounters of HOLM. The music is raw and unpolished. In three days, sketches were recorded that had been developed in a bomb shelter in the heart of Zurich's financial district. There, between luxury cars and boutiques, in the basement of a bank, HOLM regularly improvise together and, in multiple round of reconstruction and deconstruction, atmospheres take on musical form. The group captures ephemeral moments – moments that reveal a vulnerability, that contain something meaningful and fascinating.
"In Gardens" unfurls in reverberating guitar sounds, brushed drums, and firm bass riffs. It is music full of memories of all the summers that slipped by, of blurry images of hollyhocks and evening primroses, tree trunks and leaves, shadows and light.
The term “Holm” describes a small island, close to the mainland or a larger island. “Holm” carries with it connotations of a retreat, of a secluded microcosm – an image that fits perfectly for the band. In HOLM, anything is possible and there are no predetermined goals except to share a musical and emotional journey: through space and time, through memories, through life. HOLM is a place to catch a fleeting glimpse from another perspective – and, perhaps, a glimpse of truth through the window.
