Biography
To 25 year old Zurich-based singer/songwriter Jamila holding space for brutal honesty and vulnerability is the whole point of songwriting. For a long time it was hard for her to imagine her songs living anywhere else other than in the safe-space of her bedroom. It was only in the last year that she found the courage to invite others into her secret places, realising that in the particular of her unguarded lived-experience and fantasies is something that other people will connect with. By paying close attention to her innermost thoughts, she maybe finds a way of reaching you in yours.
In her first single „Fadeout“ off of her upcoming four-song debut EP with the same name she delivers her tender and raw vocals over atmospheric pop synth production. Her bold use of polyphonic effects commands attention, while still allowing the softness and emotions in her voice to shine through.
Drawing inspiration from the powerful story-telling of female artists such as Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams and Lizzie McAlpine she creates music that is made to cry, scream and dance to.
