From drumming to singing, everything I do is mostly self taught and since I have not achieved anything pertaining music yet, I found it hard to call myself a drummer or let alone a musician. Feeling inferior to others probably is a complex a lot of newcomers have to deal with but I will prove myself and anybody out there otherwise. Not being formally trained is not a hindrance to me and I'm motivated to work on my crafts. Looking at the guy in the mirror now, I would say that he is pretty much qualified as any other of his peers.
My earliest memory regarding music is when I lived in Ghana with my Aunt, Uncles and all my cousins in my late grandmother's little housing compound from '95 to '99. Coolio's C U When U Get There and Puff Daddy's I'll Be Missing You used to be my favorite songs and 3 years old me would get up, dance and sing along to the choruses everytime they were played on radio. Hip Hop has always been a part of me ever since.
Even though I grew up loving listening to Highlife, Gospel and songs by many of the Greats in Music History, the culture of Hip Hop just captivated me. I have always loved watching the MCs hype up a crowd for their DJs throwing it down on the turntables, the taggers with their art of writing and I even grew to become a dancer known as (Joey) Mojuice.
My love for music does not restrict itself to only listening and dancing to it. I love making it just as much. I have always loved percussions and drums and it turned out that I have a knack for rhythm. So my parents let me take drum lessons for a semester until we could not afford it anymore. I picked it up myself a couple years later because I had missed it so much. Today I am a Church Drummer and I try to jam with people as much as I can for the love of it. I want to add guitar, piano and producing to my skill set while honing my already acquired mastery on the way of making a name for myself.
My name is Joel and I am an aspiring Musician taking it one baby step at a time.
