Koenix delivers ultimately danceable folk-rock using exotic instruments such as bagpipes, sitar, and hurdy-gurdy. The band employs a mix of highly rhythmic instrumental pieces and sung tracks in German, Bernese Dialect, and even Swedish. They challenge you to forget your daily routine, follow your own desires, and discover the world of your imagination. The five musicians take you on a journey into an alpine world of legends, filled with mythical creatures, pulsating lights, and roaring flames.
Koenix originated in 2009 from a street music project by Swiss musicians at Scandinavia's largest medieval festival, Medeltidsveckan on Gotland. Over the past fifteen years, the band has toured rock and folk festivals in various European countries. Early on, Koenix consistently produced large-scale shows. Since the end of the pandemic, the group has consistently oriented its concept toward a rockier sound based on drums and electric guitar, conquering German scene festivals since 2023, including Wacken Open Air, Feuertanz Festival, Kaltenberger Ritterturnier, and WGT in Leipzig. Koenix has released five studio albums and one best-of compilation to date.
Koenix are: Jonas Martin Schneider (Vocals, Flutes), Michael Hugi (Bagpipe, Hurdy-Gurdy), Ariel Rossi (Guitars), Marco Piccapietra (Irish Bouzouki, Sitar), and Philipp Eichenberger (Drums).
