Leaden Fumes

Biography

Leaden Fumes is a doom-metal band from Switzerland. The band consist of Chris Sigdell and Florian Schönmann from Swiss stoner rock pioneers Phased, who were signed to German cult label Elektrohasch (Color Haze, Rotor). The trio is completed by Jonathan Schmidli from the heavy psychedelic outfit Echolot.

In 2017 Leaden Fumes recorded a first demo, and in 2020 released their first album “Abandon Ship”. It was released on the band’s own Petty Bourgeois Broadcasts label and got favorable reviews all over the scene.
„Kanashibari“, their second album, is released by Swiss label Sixteentimes Music. The album was recorded with Marc Obrist of Zeal & Ardor, and mastered by Koichi Hara (Boris, Corrupted). Musically it is a clear development of their somewhat unique progressive-doom-metal style and even comes with a “ballad” showcasing influences from blues, jazz and surf music.

„Kanashibari“ ist the demon that comes to haunt you in your sleep - to steal your breath. The title is based on the real-time experiences of one of the band members. It also means “metal bound“, which fits the music quite well. „Kanashibari“ is a stubborn, angry and diverse album. Quiet parts are followed by loud and distorted guitars, and all throughout there is a layer of subtle humour - musically as well as lyrically. Leaden Fumes are creative musicians playing with musical templates and expectations. Do not underestimate the doom force…
