Look Like aka Luca Duran is one of a new breed of outward facing young artists heading up a fresh wave of Swiss talent. He has quickly established himself as a resident of one of his home country’s favorite clubs, Zurich's prophetically named Zukunft, while initiating his Akoya Circles label. Even at this early stage, Look Like is a name not to take your eyes off for a second.
Zukunft is held in the highest esteem not only in Switzerland but throughout Europe; it is a well known fact that top clubs breed top residents. Under the close eye of the tight family surrounding the club, which includes local hero Lexx and Drumpoet boss Alex Dallas, Look Like has been holding it down there regularly since 2015.
As with all good residents, being able to mix it up stylistically is crucial and the knowledge passed down to him as well as the diverse dance floors enjoyed in Switzerland have helped him create his very own style.
His wide ranging selections are perfectly matched by his studio output. A combination of modular synths, samples and field recordings gives Look Like’s sound a punch yet also a sensitivity that is the holy grail for DJs at the very highest levels. His sound is purposely lean and samples are tuned and tweaked relentlessly to squeeze out every last drop of energy and emotion.
The clearest statement of Intent from Look Like yet was his debut release on Mistress, one of the most respected labels sitting in the sweet spot between house and techno. It is a release that not only captures his ability to create warmth and feeling through minimalism but sets his stall out as one of the rare breed of artists able to combine the punch of techno with the emotion of house music.
The label Akoya Circles was minted in 2016 and is a project between Look Like and K. Rodriguez to showcase his best and most deep diving work. Expect a steady flow of creations to emerge very soon alongside a stream of gigs in his home country and further afield from a young artist eager to expand his repertoire.
