Loussona Ground explores an introspective world through hypnotic textures and layers of sound, creating a dreamlike abundance.
She began playing the violin in 1975, later electrifying it, and from 1995 went on to perform live with various groups on her electric violin. This was the beginning of her discovery of another musical universe, electronic music.
Loussona combines magnetic tape synthesizers, ribbon models and semi-modular instruments to create unique sound textures. She fuses electronic music with music boxes that she controls remotely, writing conceptual scores for them. But her ‘Magic Box’ goes far beyond its traditional role as a musical instrument: it becomes a veritable link between drawing and sound.
Using drawings such as silhouettes of birds in flight or mountain peaks, Loussona selects points on the drawing to perforate a card. Each perforation corresponds to a note, transforming the image into a sound score. Once inserted into the ‘Magic Box’, the perforated card triggers specific sounds, turning each work into a source of melodies and rhythms.
Using this instrument, Loussona weaves sonic narratives rooted in conceptual themes.
For example, during her live performance in 2024 at the Villa Le Lac Le Corbusier, she created a composition inspired by a panorama of mountain ranges. Similarly, in 2025, for the Cully Jazz Happening Off, she used the image of seagulls in flight to create an immersive musical experience.
Alongside her conceptual explorations, Loussona also delves into a more experimental approach to sound. Without artifice, she likes to play with textures and moods by operating up to twelve walkmans simultaneously, each playing pre-prepared cassettes. Through this installation, she recreates soundscapes, from the organic sounds of the Tokyo metro to recordings captured in nature. Using this method, Loussona brings sound memories back to life, twisting the thread of reality to immerse audiences in acoustic worlds that are as intimate as they are strange.
Loussona's work explores the limits of sound perception, creating an immersive atmosphere where every moment suspended in sound invites introspection. Thanks to her perfect mastery of sound space and her innovative vision of electronic music, she offers much more than simple listening: a genuine sensory experience, capable of transporting the listener into a state of deep reverie.
The artist is not content to create alone in her world of sound: she constantly enriches her work by collaborating with other artists, both in music and in the visual arts. She has collaborated with renowned Swiss artists such as Consor, Sam Frank Blunier and Claudia Renna, as well as with
Collectif I+, where she played the role of violinist.
Most recently, she accompanied poet Caroline Despont at a public reading, where she met visual artist Sonia Bühler. This encounter gave a new dimension to the Ombre et Lumières project, a performance in which Loussona enhances Sonia Bühler's sculptures with a live soundtrack. Her compositions, imbued with subtle, immersive textures, envelop the shadows of the sculptures, adding a new dimension of sound to the visual work. Caroline Despont, for her part, places her words in touches of light, creating a fusion of poetry, visual art and music that transports the audience into a unique sensory universe.
Loussona's collaborations, whether musical or interdisciplinary, feed her constantly evolving work, and testify to her ability to weave together different art forms to create immersive and original experiences.
Loussona Ground has recently given a number of concerts at festivals and also likes to do happenings in unexpected places with a minimalist set and a looper. She lives and composes in Lausanne.
