MARIA RIA thrives on contrasts, stylistic breaks and emotional depth. Warm vocals, edgy synths, playful field recordings and powerful bass lines meet multilingual lyrics and an open heart. Her album ‘An Angel Turning Red’, due for release in 2026, tells of transformation – of becoming and growing, of being shy and showing oneself, of the process of metamorphosis: from caterpillar to butterfly. Inspired by the words of feminist artist Valie Export: ‘The arts can be understood as a medium of our self-definition adding new values to the arts. These values, (...) will alter reality towards an accommodation of female needs,’ MARIA RIA creates a sonic collage for all those who find themselves between tenderness and strength.
With her debut album, MARIA RIA will go on tour in 2026/2027 and bring her music to the stage together with singer and drummer Giulia Dabalà. Dance becomes part of the visual aesthetic of the live performance, making the process of transformation physically tangible.
