Matson, whose real name is Mathilde, is a multifaceted artist, a passionate and committed violinist. Originally from the canton of Fribourg, she has carved out a rich and varied musical journey, oscillating between symphonic metal, blues, and bluegrass.
A Musical Career Marked by Diversity
In 2010, she joined the band Elferya, a symphonic metal group with which she performed on numerous Swiss and international stages. She played at Les Docks in Lausanne, the Rock Cave at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and the famous Z7 in Pratteln. Her talent and Elferya’s growing reputation allowed her to open for prestigious bands such as Eluveitie, Epica, Delain, and Seven Kingdoms. She also had the opportunity to perform at the legendary Underworld in London.
In 2018, she became part of Borderline, a band that took her musical and stage experience to a whole new level. This period led her to perform internationally on iconic stages. The 2018 tour brought her to the United Arab Emirates, followed by the 2019 Route 61 tour, the cradle of American blues. She played in legendary venues such as the B.B. King Club in Indianola, the Ground Zero in Clarksdale, and the Rum Boogie Cafe in Memphis.
A Personal and Musical Quest
Music played a crucial role in Matson’s quest for identity. Thanks to a fan of Elferya, Jace, she managed to trace her origins and find her biological family in the Philippines. In 2016, she finally met her father and two biological brothers. This life-changing journey extended to the United States, particularly in Colorado and Texas, where she connected with another part of her family.
It was in Colorado, a true musical haven, that she discovered bluegrass and immersed herself in this culture by attending workshops and sharing experiences with professionals in the field. This exposure to folk and bluegrass music enriched her playing and artistic expression.
A Bold Solo Project
After years of collaboration with various bands, Matson decided to embark on a solo project, partnering with her longtime friend and producer, Melvin Crabol. He is responsible for the arrangements and collaborates on the compositions Matson brings to him. Together, they create a unique musical universe that blends her influences from metal, blues, and folk.
A Committed Artist
Beyond music, Matson is deeply involved in education and environmental awareness. As a music teacher, she shares her knowledge and passion with the younger generation. Additionally, she serves as the president of an association dedicated to forest conservation, believing strongly in the importance of nature for human and artistic balance.
Always seeking new adventures and musical explorations, Matson continues to innovate and be at the forefront, building a bridge between her personal history and artistic expression.
