Michel Valdes, Cuban-Swiss singer, composer and charismatic frontman, comes from a musical family in Matanzas, Cuba. He was taught music from an early age. The son of Clemente Valdes Fernández, a professional guitarist and singer, it was clear that his inclination and passion for music was inevitable. He began his musical career at the age of 8, participating in several children's festivals.
Michel grew up with the big, sweet melodies of Cuban music. He trained as a professional musician at the “Superación de Arte” Rafael Somavilla school in Matanzas. There he took his first steps as a singer under the guidance of his vocal teacher Esteban Taylor, who had also previously given singing lessons to his father. His career in Cuban musical groups is impressively long and includes important ensembles such as Orquesta Tropicana, Banda Brava, Costa Latina, Grupo Tiempos, Héctor Daniel y la Constelación, and many others.
In 2001 and 2002, his collaboration with the Canary Islands' Tinguaro led to a nomination for “Premios Lucas.” The album “Jugando con el tiempo” (2001), produced by Cuban musician Pucho López and recorded in Eusebio Delfín's studios in Cienfuegos/Cuba, ranked third in its category.
In Switzerland, Michel Valdes has expanded his musical versatility by performing in various salsa ensembles such as Limón y Menta, Batambo, El Zorro, Ángel Bonne, Mi Tumbao and Copacabana. He also works on projects that embrace other musical styles. His passion, charisma, and talent have made him a staple of the music scene in Cuba, his new home country of Switzerland, and other European countries as well.
