Born in Bern in 1989, Mina Matter is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, piano, bass, accordion, clarinet and percussion herself on her recordings. In her twenties, she left Switzerland to spend sixteen years travelling through France, Portugal, South America and beyond, before returning to Bern.
A complete newcomer to the music business and social media, she simply uploaded her first songs, under the title Bolo’Bolo, to YouTube for free: reimagined Bernese chansons inspired by Mani Matter, Züri West, Patent Ochsner and Chica Torpedo. She is now working on original electro-indie-pop material — more danceable and direct, but with the same Bernese heart, sung in dialect.
Despite her surname, Mina has never confirmed a possible family connection to the legendary troubadour Mani Matter — nor has she ever denied it.
