Mr Pancake has carved out a unique space for himself as one of Switzerland’s most eclectic and passionate DJs. Born and raised in Switzerland, with an American mother who filled the house with classic soul, funk, oldies, and country, Blaise Hefti, aka Mr Pancake, developed an early and deep connection with music. His first cassette tapes—Vanilla Ice, Michael Jackson, and MC Hammer—were souvenirs from a summer trip to the USA at the age of six, setting the stage for a lifelong love affair with sound.
His DJ journey began in high school, spinning records at local parties, where a post-dinner prank turned into a legend—friends throwing pancakes in the crowd led to his nickname, which stuck and became his DJ moniker.
In 1999, while digging through crates at a record shop in Geneva, Mr Pancake discovered the album *The Incredible Sounds of Gilles Peterson*. This moment became a turning point, opening his ears to a vast world of jazz-infused beats, deep grooves, and rare musical gems. Since then, crate-digging has been an obsession, always on the hunt for music that breaks the mold.
Classic and underground hip-hop hold a special place in his heart, with scratching and sampling as fundamental pillars of his craft. Finding original samples, rare breaks, and anything J Dilla-related sits at the top of his priority list.
Festivals like Worldwide Music Festival and Shapes Music Festival further expanded his sonic universe, introducing him to deep house, soulful electronic music, and global sounds that now shape his sets. Whether it’s a dusty soul cut, a hard-hitting boom-bap beat, or a hypnotic house groove, Mr Pancake blends genres seamlessly, always keeping the crowd locked in the moment.
A true vinyl enthusiast and selector, he thrives on sharing his discoveries with an audience that values depth, rhythm, and authenticity. Mr Pancake continues his musical journey, exploring new styles, pushing boundaries, and bringing his signature energy to dance floors as well as during his online sets on Twitch and Instagram most Wednesdays at 8pm CET.
