Mukuna
Biography
Over the course of almost a decade, Mukuna has become a significant presence in the Basel dance music scene.
As a producer, Mukuna’s music draws from early childhood experiences learning Senegalese drums to map out connections to his own musical heritage. Percussive rhythms continue to form the core of his practice, across his work with Somatic Rituals, the label he co-founded in 2017, and on compilations from Behuá Icára, ClubCultureCH and Electronic Beats.
His DJ style, refined through his residency at the iconic Elysia club in Basel, blends a diverse range of polyrhythmic sounds, never shying away from surprising the crowd. Time spent in Amsterdam further strengthened Mukuna’s bonds with the European club scene, with performances at De School, Garage Noord, kanaal40, and Rotterdam’s POING CLUB, plus streams with Future Intel and Dekmantel.
Always connecting the dots between global sounds and local scenes, Mukuna continues pushing definitions of club music into new and exciting territories.
