Musician on stage, in studio and a writer, Raphaël Pitteloud is sollicited for music in shows, concerts, cd recordings and music for films. Welcomingly considered as a musical colorist, he gives, by his game of percussions, a relief and additional emotion to the music composed.
His muscial universe, mixed with diverse percussions, opens a dimension rich in sounds, in tones and in images. Playing Indian tablas to Asian gongs, from the African djembé to jazz drums, from cymbals to pots and pans, from ceramic vases to congas, he uses the diversity of sound to passionately combine harmonies.
He played and collaborated with a large number of quality musicians, among them : Antoine Auberson, François Lindemann, Sébastian Santamaria, Lee Madeford, Daniel Perrin, Antonello Salis, Matthieu Michel, Cyrille Bugnon, Mathias Demoulin, Patrick Muller, Jean-Philippe Zwahlen, Churchil Jolobé, Michael Nielson, Dudu Pukwana, Joe Malinga, José Barrense Diaz, Pascal Reichler, Thierry Lang, Emmanuel Fratianni, Richard Jean, Hans Koch, Ferenc Bokany, et bien d’autres…Et avec des groupes tels que : Speira N’Nbassa, Minging, Joe Malinga Quartet, Girasol, Comedy Quartet, Po-Djama, Solar Side's, Thierry Lang & Friends, Marvin Africa Group...
Raphael produces his own solos ( Percussion Expérimentale en 1983, 1984, 1987 et 1997), and also composes music for shows and ballet : Kynéchma, Un Monde d'Enfants, … and music for films : Le Tueur de Midi de Denis Rabaglia, La Chine d’André Tardent, Miroir de glace de K-Soul Cherix, La légende de la terre dorée de Stéphane Brasey …
He contributed to the setting up and played in diverse creations : « Mandala », with the Lindemann-Ehinger-Pitteloud Trio + Borgeaud, « Hors Série », with the Nomade dance company, Serges Compardon and the Cyrille Bugnon Quintet, etc…
Other than the different musical styles he gravitates around, such as jazz, world music, variety, classic and latin he uses his intrusments to illustrate musically and simply childrens' music : Sautecroche (CD 1 to 4), Papimoustache (CD 1 to 3), Cœur du Collège Ste Marie (CD 1 to 5), the M’Toto et le crocodile végétarien show …etc…
Raphaël Pitteloud is passioned by sounds and high quality instruments. When using cymbals, in particular, his requirements have been fully satisfied for the past few decades with material from Zildjian. The solidity of this loyalty of heart and ear was translated in 1992 by Raphael becoming a Zildjian Endorser with the Avedis Zildjian Company.
Raphaël Pitteloud received the Cultural Prize of Sion (Switzerland) in 1997.
