ROTORHEAD – The electro-acoustical synthesiser
ROTORHEAD is a hand-built DIY instrument that generates sounds mechanically.
Six vibrating motors rotate at a frequency that corresponds to audible tones – amplified via a wooden plate. The instrument is polyphonic and plays up to six notes simultaneously.
ROTORHEAD is controlled via MIDI – using a keyboard for live performances or directly from the DAW. The sound is somewhere between an organ and 80s 8-bit sound – ideal for pop or rock songs.
The instrument was built from recycled parts – completely without a blueprint, purely from the mind.
Although there have been similar ideas, ROTORHEAD is unique in its playability and portability.
This instrument is used to create songs – covers and original pieces – with one goal in mind: it has to sound good and be fun!
