Safari feeling at Zurich’s Langstrasse: Sissy Fox producer Joana Aderi has gathered her favorite musicians. Together they created the feelgood track „The Sun Is Ready“. Sunshine instead of Apocalypse? Those who know Sissy Fox surely sense the dark soul behind the happy tune. It lays deeply in her personality, she will always move both body, soul and mind.
Sissy Fox relates to Sisyphus from Greek Mythology. He had tricked death and was therefore forced to roll a boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll down again and repeating this action for eternity. Sissy Fox sees herself forced to create her own world everyday without relying on norms, expectations of society and infiltrated ideals.
On her first album „Skip The Universe“ (2015) she plays DIY-Pop with a punk attitude. Or, as written in „Schaffhauser Nachrichten“: „Sissy Fox is breaking the highly polished surface of the the contemporary pop scene with some sizzling basses and a lot of personality“.
Sissy Fox has a very playful approach to pop music and with great ease she brings together wonderful musicality, clever arrangements and a sense of humor. Strong Statements („pick your own apocalypse“) come through a brave mix of styles, instruments and beats, like that Sissy Fox always moves your body, soul and mind.
How did her message change in 2017? No apocalypse, but a change of direction: We join Sissy Fox on a trip to Africa. In her single „The Sun Is Ready“ she moves away from the subtle anger of „Skip The Universe“ to an apparently happier, easier music. But Sissy Fox would not be Sissy Fox, if she didn’t mock us with this expectation. Between the lines she travels back to her own experience as Swiss-Kenyan of color growing up in Switzerland. It is a shrill, dazzling, golden game with the Africa in our heads. and Nairobi? Nairobi is now located at Langstrasse, the main street of Zurich’s redlight district. (Niklaus Buehler, Irascible)
