Soulrivermate started up in 1999 in Locarno (Switzerland) as an acoustic pop-rock band. Three of the four members (Max, Christian and Daniel) come from a different music scene, and played for many years in hard-core or emo-core bands. The choice of this particular sound comes out by the need to express feelings and experiences in a natural way. This delicate and direct sound provides a particular atmosphere to soulrivermate’s music, which describes an introspective journey in the meanders of human soul. soulrivermate is in fact intended as the part of yourself that you don’t know, but that is always with you. The band made many concerts in their own country, encouraged by the growing interest of the public. The four members decided to record their first album for this project. What came out is their first release: gemini. the title, as the cover, explains the duality of the emotions and the atmospheres, which are expressed in the songs, recorded in 2003, but composed (at least most of them) between 1999 and 2000, before bands like Coldplay and Starsailor, which then inspired the band, came out. Surely bands like Radiohead, Placebo, Sophia also inspired them the most. All the four members felt and feel the need to express themselves naturally, giving a central role to melody. Soulrivermate speak directly but with delicacy through music, with the power of calm and tranquillity, sometimes broken by the strongest feelings, as those expressed in songs as Why? and Stranger. Between 2000 and 2003 the band composed a lot of new material. The arrangements have become more simple but stronger and more various in a way. The length of the songs has been reduced to give space to a better synthesis of what the band wants to express. Soulrivermate would like to introduce the piano in their composition in the future, to achieve a more intense and dynamic acoustic ensemble.
