The FOCE concert venue welcomes live music and contributes to the realization of the Foce project as an artistic hub. The structure allows for a wide range of musical offerings, introducing new genres and experiences.
After hosting Under Changeover, Giacomo Reggiani Quartet, Sun Over Waves, Tatum Rush, Amiata (pop music), and Julie Meletta, the Events and Congresses Division of the City of Lugano is launching the 2024/2025 competition for the allocation of three music residencies, each lasting 5 days, at Studio FOCE. This competition is open to musicians from Italian-speaking Switzerland and aims to encourage and support musical creativity in the region.
Through this project, the Events and Congresses Division is committed to supporting the creative work of particularly innovative artists or groups in the field of music, to aid in the development of rehearsals and the preparation of a tour. The goal is to help them achieve greater artistic value by supporting professionalization in terms of logistical, productive, and technical support. The winners of the competition will benefit from a 5-day residency (from Sunday to Thursday) and an expense reimbursement of CHF 1,300.
The residency concludes with a concert at Studio FOCE, through a performance for which the fee is considered included in the amount mentioned above. The artistic field of interest is contemporary music—rock, blues, jazz, folk, singer-songwriter, rap/hip-hop, electronic music, world music—and candidates must be creators and performers (no cover bands) from Italian-speaking Switzerland.
The projects will be evaluated by a special committee composed of:
- Aris Bassetti – musician and producer
- Filippo Corbella – musician, Head of Music Programming, Events and Congresses Division
- Fernando Di Cicco – musician, Music Production, Events and Congresses Division
- Zeno Gabaglio – musician, President of the Music Subcommittee of Canton Ticino, Vice President of the SUISA Foundation
- Fabio Pinto – musician and audio producer
There are three periods/slots for the residencies:
A. November 24 - 28, 2024
B. March 2 - 6, 2025
C. April 20 - 24, 2025
The selection results for period (A) will be announced in October 2024, while the results for periods (B and C) will be announced in January 2025. Applications must be submitted by specifying the preferred slots (multiple preferences are possible) by October 20, 2024, for slot A, and by December 15, 2024, for slots B and C.
