Planet of the Cunts: last stop before the end of the world
Ten years after leaving Manchester to return to mainland Europe, the French rapper MC Dro-P continues to write his love story with old England. This time, it is with Manchester beatsmith Mankub that he has teamed up to deliver a stratospheric album, radically conscious and engaged. The result of collaborative and meticulous work, their LP "Planet of the Cunts" will be released on 7th October on Gold On The Mixer (GOTM), the British underground label that definitely never ceases to amaze.
Trifling with the codes of the genre, the two acolytes take us on a one-way trip to the farthest and most absurd reaches of the universe. But like in the novel Planet of the Apes to which the album pays homage, it is indeed on Earth that this cosmic-poetic journey brings us back. Throughout the tracks of the album, MC Dro-P indeed pushes us to stare at human stupidity straight in the eye and to take stock of the slow agony of our dear blue planet – all while brilliantly grooving on Mankub’s inimitable instrumentals.
To top it all off, the pair has brought together an impressive roster of guests. We thus find regulars of the GOTM label Deeq (from Oxford) and Amos (from Blackpool) on the very dark track “Mental Prison”. On the same track, the London rapper Teach Em, who has been recently chaining projects and concerts, enthrals us with her smooth and hypnotizing flow. The Swiss-based DJ Blaster B completes this extraordinary cast for what is a real musical slap. As delightful is the presence of Frenchman Scam Leon, pillar of the En Garde Records! label, on the track “Un pavé dans la mare” (A cat among the pigeons).
MC Dro-P and Mankub have found in each other the perfect match. The Franco-English duo lays here the first stones of a revival of underground hip-hop, we bet they won't stop there!

Dix ans après avoir quitté Manchester pour retrouver la terre ferme du continent, le rappeur français MC Dro-P continue d’écrire son histoire d’amour avec la vieille Angleterre. Cette fois-ci, c’est avec le beatmaker mancunien Mankub qu’il s’est associé pour nous servir un album stratosphérique, radicalement conscient et engagé. Résultat d’un travail collaboratif et minutieux, leur LP « La planète des cons » sort le 7 octobre chez Gold On The Mixer (GOTM), le label britannique underground qui n’a définitivement pas fini de surprendre.
Se jouant des codes du genre, les deux acolytes nous embarquent pour un aller sans retour vers les recoins les plus absurdes de l’univers. Mais, à l’instar du roman La planète des singes auquel l’album rend hommage, c’est bien sur la Terre que nous ramène ce voyage cosmico-poétique. Tout au long des morceaux de ce court album, MC Dro-P nous pousse en effet à regarder droit dans les yeux la bêtise humaine et à prendre la mesure de la lente agonie de notre chère planète bleue – tout en maîtrise et en groove sur les instrumentales inimitables de Mankub.
Pour couronner le tout, les deux artistes ont réuni un roster impressionnant d’invité·es. On retrouve ainsi les habitués du label GOTM Deeq (d’Oxford) et Amos (de Blackpool) sur le morceau très sombre « Prison mentale ». Sur ce même morceau, la rappeuse de Londres Teach Em, qui enchaine depuis quelque temps les projets et les concerts, nous subjugue avec son flow suave et hypnotisant. Le DJ Lausannois Blaster B vient compléter ce casting extraordinaire pour une véritable claque musicale. On se réjouira également de la présence du français Scam Leon, pilier du label En Garde! Records au flow toujours aussi aiguisé, sur le morceau « Un pavé dans la mare ».
MC Dro-P et Mankub ont trouvé la complicité parfaite. Le duo franco-anglais pose ici les premières pierres d’un renouveau du hip-hop underground, gageons qu’ils ne s’arrêteront pas en si bon chemin !
