Birds from Above’ is a duet between two people living through different realities but having similar dreams. On one side is a young person, represented by singer Sophie Adam. They wake up, have coffee, smoke a cigarette, feed the cat, and daydream about the possibilities ahead. On the other side is legendary Punjabi singer Balbir Bhujhangy from the world’s longest-running Bhangra band, Bhujhangy Group. He has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for 50 years of singing songs in Punjabi about the West Midlands’ factories and steel foundries in Smethwick, near Birmingham. He worked there till his retirement, and in the evenings, he performed work songs in the local pub. The lyrics for ‘Birds from Above’ were taken from an interview conducted by Thomas Burkhalter and from new lyrics and vocals sung by Balbir Bhujhangy. This is the first time he has ever sung in English.
