After hearing the song “Bruises” by Samora, Xelif reached out with the idea of creating an intimate version featuring only her voice and a piano. The concept immediately resonated with Samora, as the song holds profound significance during a period when political movements and ideologies that mock and undermine the dignity of others—especially women—are regaining widespread support. This intimate arrangement, stripped down to just piano and voice, emphasizes the raw vulnerability expressed by Samora in “Bruises.” The song stands asa symbol of the suffering, pain, and wounds that women often endure, giving their stories a powerful voice. It transforms into both an indictment and an anthem against the injustices faced by society’s most vulnerable.
Both rooted in Reggae, Xelif and Samora come together on this soulful piano ballad, where Samora channels the weight of women's collective pain and suffering into her heartfelt performance. Xelif provides the perfect accompaniment, lifting and carrying this emotional burden through his music.
“Bruises (Piano Session)” is released in time for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25th.
