This 5th album tackles important themes such as redemption, self-transcendence and the search for truth through the man/machine duality, while retaining the band's unique sound: energetic-punchy-power rock.

“Nothing last, what makes us free."

This sentence, which cements the chorus of “What Makes Us Free” and also recurs in the song “Falling In Darkness”, sums up the principle of mortality in a nutshell, and forms the common thread running through the whole album: a call to our resilience, to the fact that it's always possible to start again, to reinvent ourselves, to be reborn like the phoenix, and to pierce the darkness by choosing the light.

The ultrasolid artwork by Damsink represents a man/machine hybrid heart that the Metal Rebel, the central figure of Herz Machine, a machine in its quest for mortality, needs to get closer to humans. It wants to have a soul, to feel emotions, and it thinks it can achieve this by getting an organic heart in its metal carcass.
