"Spaces In Between: A Meditation on Silence, Time, and the Void"
At the heart of this work is the notion that, much like the universe, the human body is composed more of emptiness than of tangible matter. If we consider the spaces between the nucleus of each cell and its surrounding elements, it becomes apparent that emptiness prevails over substance. Similarly, this album reflects on the vastness of these gaps—whether between sounds, moments, or thoughts—revealing the beauty hidden within the spaces we might typically overlook.
The first track, "Space One" serves as the foundation of the album. It is a minimalist piano composition featuring just five notes, delicately spaced in time. The simplicity of this piece is deceptive, as it lays the groundwork for a complex exploration of sound and duration. The intervals between the notes become as significant as the notes themselves, allowing the listener to sink into the temporal void and experience the expanding and contracting nature of silence.
This album delves into the temporal and timbral dimensions of sound, treating time as a fluid, malleable element that reshapes the musical landscape. Across six distinct piano pieces, time is not merely a measure but a creative force that compresses, fragments, and stretches sonic material, offering listeners a new dimension in which to experience familiar timbres.
Each subsequent track evolves from the original recording in "Space One". These pieces are not merely repetitions but transformations of the foundational piano sound. Through a blend of acoustic performance and subtle electronic sound treatments, they explore the delicate interplay between the organic and the synthetic, the real and the imagined, the recorded and the manipulated.
The use of time-stretching and manipulation in these tracks highlights the tension between sound and silence, matter and void. By altering the spacing and duration of each note, the music challenges our perception of continuity and invites us to reconsider the meaning of silence and emptiness. The stretches of silence within the music become as expressive as the sounds themselves, drawing the listener into the spaces that typically go unnoticed.
Through this sonic journey, the listener is invited into a deep, immersive experience that functions as both an introspective mental exploration and a physical, sensory experiment.
The result is a cohesive yet constantly evolving collection of pieces that redefine how we perceive time and space in music. This work is not just heard; it is felt, both intellectually and physically, creating a resonant experience that transcends traditional musical boundaries.
One of these nights when I was composing music, I took a break, stepped on the balcony. From this place, you can see the top of the mountains that surrounding my village, a thousand meters high...
