Here is the music video statement written by LEO2R: "Finally, today is the day I unveil the music video for ‘anachronsit’. This visual statement, which was created to accompany the music of anachronist, was probably the most exciting, strenuous and rewarding experience of my life. The idea for this music video came to me quite suddenly one winter evening. The image of a masked creature walking in a forest was the first to appear in my mind, and acted as a catalyst to release a floodgate of ideas, which I frantically attempted to write down on paper. The direction this video would be taking became clear very early on. I’ve always been captivated by the art of filmmaking, and particutlary so by the mind-bending genre (for lack of a better term). The list is endless, but some of my favourites that I experienced lately are mullholand drive, fight club, the machinist, inception, vanilla sky. These movies are so powerful because they leave so much to be interpreted by the viewer. And this was the overarching device that I would try my best to grasp and utilise in the music video. If you haven’t seen the video yet, I suggest you stop reading now, watch the video, take as long as you need to process it, and then come back to read this second part.

You’ve seen the video? Good, let’s proceed. Since the goal was to achieve mutlitple interpretations, I found myself constantly discovering new possibilities and storylines. Therefore I find myself lost in all these variations and unable to truly hold on to one that I firmly believe in. But still, the most “appropriate” one to my knowledge is this. A character wakes up in a forest. “what is going on? Where am I ?” he asks himself. He gets up and starts walking, quickly he stumbles upon these golden objects, hanging in the trees. He follows them, and eventually arrives in a clearing, which reveals a habitat, a sort of living room. Perplexed, he approaches cautiously. Opening a drawer, he discovers a box and opens it, to find pictures of himself lying on the ground unconscious. This is too much to take in and he falls back onto the sofa. Suddenly, he feels a mysterious presence creeping in on him from behind. It’s a fight-or-flight situation, and not knowing what he’s up against, makes a choice to run. He runs back into the forest, away from the mysterious creature (known as the ‘anachronist’), which is now following him. The character eventually reaches a climax, and can’t go on. He collapses in the same spot and into the same position as we discover him at the beginning of the video (did you pick up on that?). The anachronist following him also appears to collapse in the same place. Then, the night takes over, and he re-discover the anachronist lying on the floor. The following sequence is in reverse, as we follow the anachronist back to his habitat, where he takes of his mask to reveal his true identity. Once again, however, this leaves place to two (or more) interpretations. Firstly, Was he the anachronist all along? And was the character a manifestation of the anachronist’s doubt of what he’d become, and proof of not fully committing and embracing his new life? Or otherwise, does this video actually show the transformation of a person abandoning society and becoming an anachronist, and embracing it?

About all the gold. The gold is supposed to represent the barrier that society and culture imposes on reality. It’s this filter that blocks things from truly showing what they are. We see it as monochrome because our views and beliefs don’t allow us to penetrate into its reality.

This is a lot to take in, it still is for me, but that’s why I truly believe this is a magical story. I suggest you re-watch the video, as you will discover new clues every time you do! I would love to hear from you, your interpretations, or any comments or questions you have about the video. Thank you for watching, and to those who made it to the end of this statement, thank you."
