Iggy Pop. David Bowie. Postpunk. New Wave. For sure, they have influenced the sound of The Misconfigurations. A brand new band with a great sound, led by singer and guitarist Marc Holthuizen. They’re surprising us with refreshing guitars, mature songwriting and an impressive powerful production.
No wonder, Zurich-based Marc Holthuizen has learned his lessons from the big ones: He's been working with producer legend Rick Rubin during his time as sound engineer in LA. During that time, he’s put a hand on recordings such as the ones from Rage Against The Machine.
Back in Switzerland, he’s now opening a new chapter: The Misconfigurations’ single «It Pertains to Silence Now» is a first taste from the upcoming debut album, set for release in April. It was recorded at an abandoned foundry in Baden, Switzerland, together with illustrious musicians from Al Pride and the accomplished Swiss film composer Marcel Vaid.
Marc about the single «It Pertains To Silence Now»
The song «It Pertains To Silence Now» is my personal «Mullholland Drive»-experience, my illusion of a golden future. At the age of 22 I decided to go to California, the land of my musical idols. I sold everything and flew to LA carrying only two suitcases and my Gretsch Corvette guitar.
After a lot of help from new friends and some luck, I got a recording job at EastWest Studios, still the best rooms for rock recordings in town. Wow! Instantly I was in the middle of everything. It was a riot! But also, I experienced hardcore U.S. capitalism. We lived from hope while being exploited.
Three years later, despite the twelve-hour-days, I was broke. So I returned to Switzerland with only my beloved Jay-Walker, my big black terrier mix, whom I picked up and cared for, after he was hit by a car. When he died a few years later in Switzerland, my «California Dream» died with him. So that's what «It Pertains to Silence Now» is about.
