Biography
Tison Candelo is a young and up-and-coming newcomer band from Basel with Caribbean
and Latin American roots. The present LP "TIRADO EN LA CALLE" is the debut album of the band and captures their musical work on record for the first time.
Tison Candelo was founded in 2012 by the two Dominican Rappers Tison and Candelo and was designed to be the next step in the musical journey that had begun with the duo’s first joint project “Peso Neto” a few years before. The main idea for the new endeavor was basically an integration of the Rap music of their previous work into a broader musical framework. While the sound of "Peso Neto" was mainly influenced by the use of pre-designed sound samples and drum computers, Tison Candelo was now clearly defined as a live band, which would, thanks to the immediate interaction of the band with the audience and the interplay among the musicians themselves, lead the duo’s Rap into more advanced musical territories.
What has emerged musically can perhaps most appropriately be described as a spirited fusion of Hip-Hop, Caribbean and Latin rhythms, and the hovering and romantic melodic lines, as they are known and appreciated from Spanish and Latin vocal culture all over the globe. During the five years of their existence, Tison Candelo have become a spirited live act with a lot of stage experience, an endeavor that has now been complemented with their present recording debut "TIRADO EN LA CALLE".
The music of "TIRADO EN LA CALLE", consisting solely of self-composed songs from within the eight-piece band, is looking for an authentic expression of the difficult living conditions at home, the life on the street and the hardships that people are facing day in and day out with great persistency and determination. At the same time, the lyrics tell of love, lust and romance, of friendship and of the many small things that make life worth living. It indeed is this very mixture and the artistic blending of these two opposing leitmotifs, which make the pieces assembled here so credible and authentic.
If the language of the texts thus appears in this way as multidimensional and indeterminate, that is to say, open to different interpretations, the language of the music itself might more easily be brought to a common denominator: Musically, everything revolves around the immediacy of the sounds and rhythms, the appetite for dancing and the desire to share the simplicity and beauty of the moment with others.
And finally, if we put all in a nutshell, it is precisely this intuitive, physical dimension that seems to be the pivotal feature of the experience that Tison Candelo seek to communicate with their audience both live and on record –
