Formed in the late 2022, Vague Visions is a Zurich-based quartet whose sound transcends simple descriptions and sparks many discussions. Some call it noise rock or post-punk, while others identify elements that are characteristic for shoegaze, drone, black metal and even garage rock. While all these genres leave their marks on VV's eclectic music, the band's unfiltered self-expression and fierce love for experimentation have allowed it to tap into the latent zones of the soundscape and craft its own, clearly unique sound from the get-go. This highly immersive sound can be best described as an inherently contradictive marriage of eerie gloom with lush elegancy.
A balanced 50-50 mix of members from Eastern Europe and South America allows their cultural heritage to seep into the creative process, resulting in an everpresence of hopelessly melancholic but utterly gallant melodies that are orchestrated by intricate, repetitive yet unpredictable and often tribal rhythm sections. Feedbacking walls of distortion, stabbing tremolos, reverb-drenched arpeggios, ethereal leads, pummeling bass-lines and driving drum-beats. All these puzzle pieces create a blend of horrendous, harsh sounds paired with mellifluous harmonies and textures.
VV's live performances are chaotic and physical, known for their honest, laser focused energy and highly engaging dynamic arcs that take the audience on a rollercoaster cycle: unsettled-hypnotized-disoriented-emancipated.
Vague Visions stand out as one of the hardest-working bands in the local scene. In just two years of DIY operation, the collective has played 21 shows across various Swiss cities, along with an international gig at the legendary EKH in Vienna. The band has also self-financed the recording of their debut two-song single at Working Class Recordings, set for release in the first quarter of 2025. Driven by unwavering confidence and relentless motivation that stem from the depth of their artistic vision, the band is actively pursuing opportunities to expand their reach — seeking local and international show and tour bookings, label partnerships, grants for album and music video production, and broader promotional support.
