Virginie Janelas is a composer, lyricist, and performer. A free and borderless artist, she will release her first solo EP, "CARMINS," in 2026. Five contrasting tracks, filled with light, melancholy, and delicate energy.
Virginie's career is essentially one of movement: she grew up between Switzerland and Portugal, her countries of origin, then moved to Paris. After an experience in China, she returned to Switzerland for several years of theater, group music, and sound experimentation. She is now based in Bordeaux. Her musical influences are multiple and in very varied genres: Gérard Manset, Brigitte Fontaine, Aldous Harding, Bertrand Belin, but also Catherine Ribeiro, Beirut, Raphael, Flotation Toy Warning or even Alain Bashung, Angel Olsen, Lonny and Fiona Apple.
Virginie Janelas's favorite instrument remains the guitar, but her curiosity has drawn her closer to keyboards, synths, and drum machines. She combines electronic sounds with acoustic breathing, and sometimes even adds traditional sounds, such as the Portuguese guitar and the cavaquinho. She creates and produces her music in her studio, between practicing instruments and arranging on the computer. Her inspiration comes from the nature around her and her feelings for those close to her.
During her solo concerts, she easily switches between guitar and keyboard, from machines to Portuguese guitar. Her distinctive sound reveals all its power, and her full-throated, open-hearted interpretation leaves no one indifferent. Her voice, marked by life, offers itself without artifice and unfolds from low to high notes, from whispers to bursts of brilliance. Virginie doesn't just play her music; she lives it and takes you with her.
