Yael Miller, a composer driven by her passion for vocal expression and analog synthesizers, delves into the multifaceted nature of love in her new album, FAIRUZ. From unexpected encounters and friendships blossoming into relationships, to the weight of societal expectations and the ephemerality of fleeting romances, each track offers a unique perspective. Sung in her native Hebrew, the album blends her voice with a tapestry of synthesizers, brass, bass, and drums, oscillating between ambient soundscapes, pop, and a pinch of oriental music.
The birth of my child began on the night of June 28th, 2023, amidst the riots that followed Nahel’s death. The sky was heavy with smoke, and we felt as if this child would be born in the heart of a revolutionary upheaval. In the final moments, we played a song by Fairuz, the Lebanese diva. The midwife then entered and exclaimed, “Wow, that’s the sound of my childhood! If you give birth while listening to Fairuz, it will be the most beautiful day of my life.” Thus, Fairuz and this midwife are forever etched in our memories.
