It seems like Brazen has had several lives. Formed at the end of the 1990s in Geneva (Switzerland), the band emerged at the turn of the millennium as an emo/post-hardcore outfit, laying the foundations for a sound universe of intertwining harmonies and raging melancholy on their debut EP …as floods decrease (2000, Snuff Records). Moving on to prog-tinged indie-rock, the melodic vein of which they dug with Orphaned (2003, Sticksister Records) and then Aura, Dora (2006, Saïko Records), Brazen has toured Europe, playing with the likes of Cave In, Blonde Redhead, Franz Ferdinand and Nada Surf.
After an eclipse of almost two decades, Brazen returns with Distance, written between Geneva (CH) – where Thibault Schneeberger (vocals, guitars, bass) and Robin Jossen (guitars) still live – and London (UK) or Malmö (Sweden) – for Mark Blakebrough (drums, vocals). In memory of his time as bassist and singer with the group, Michel Blanc agreed to sing on “Running“.
Recorded by Brazen and by Serge Morattel (Knut, Ventura, Impure Wilhelmina, Shora, etc.) at Geneva’s Rec Studio, the album opens a new chapter in Brazen’s history, proving that the band has lost none of its harmonic richness, epic breath or sense of melodic storytelling.
