Driven by tasty grooves, Fifi's Spaceship flies through the universe of pop/soul
with energy and virtuosity. The project, which originated in the heart of the
Basel jazz scene, is the result of a collaboration between drummer and
composer Alfio Laini (alias Fifi) from La Chaux-de-Fonds and singer Rémy
Arenas from Strasbourg. Samuel Berthoud (guitar), Julia Kasimova (piano), and
Tommy Fuller (bass) complete the crew.
After moving to Basel to study at the Jazzcampus, Alfio Laini founded Fifi's
Spaceship in 2020 in its first instrumental version. Accompanied by his
Jazzcampus colleagues, Alfio forges the project's identity in Switzerland's
small concert halls and bars.
After Rémy joined the project in 2022, the band reached new heights and
presented their new music on stages such as the Ascona Jazz Festival in
Ticino, the Em Bebbi Sy Jazz Festival in Basel, and Le Royal in Tavannes. With
several guests, such as Lucerne singer and rapper MISS C-LINE, they went
into the studio to record their first album, Amber Tides, which will be released
on November 22, 2024.
Following this first major release, they are already working on their next album.
Their new music skillfully combines their jazzy heritage and a voice worthy of
the greats of soul with modern pop/rock production. It will delight both the
ears and the dancing bodies of listeners.
The first single from this new chapter, Doctor, is releasing on November 21,
2025.
