WHY "GIBI"?
The nickname "GiBi" came about by accident in 2009 in my middle school days. Green has always been my favorite color and I used to dress like that a lot back then: hence the nickname Green Boy. The name sounded more like that of a super hero so, with the help of a great person who has always (and still) supported me the most, I decided on just the initials: GiBi.
BIOGRAPHY
Born Matteo Maddes, he is an ordinary boy with a great passion for music.
At the age of six, also pushed by his parents, he began taking piano lessons for 5-6 years and then drums, for 4 years.
Still not having a favorite genre of music, he listened to almost anything. At age 12, he began to get hooked on one genre of music: rap/hip-hop. His first real artist-inspirer was one of the greatest Italian "old school" rappers: Bassi Maestro.
2010-2012:
Over the years, his passion for this musical genre led him to listen to and discover various artists from the Italian rap scene and later, in 2010, to write lyrics entirely his own. More like thoughts or emotions felt, which could not yet be called songs, however.
The song that gave the cue to launch into the adventure was "Fatti forza!" (written and dedicated to a close friend after the passing of his father).
In September 2011, the start of his project: an album consisting of 10 tracks. The only doubt was whether or not to implement collaborations with other artists from the Ticino rap scene. In the end, the idea of individual work prevailed also because, according to GiBi, only a fully self-produced production can bring out the real potential.
In December 2012 here is finally the dream materialized: the CD "Memories of the Future."
2013:
Participations in the show "S-QUOT" and "S-QUOT Showtime" then follow, as well as a live concert at "Spartyto" (Biasca) in 2013.
Several singles were released in the same year:
- Single release and video clip of "Soltato un secondo" (feat. Rayen & Imai). Commissioned by the association AMTIBU (Amici Ticino per il Burundi) as a "peace-promoting" song.
- Single release and video clip "Thank you."
- Publication single and video clip "She is so."
- Participation in the single "Prendiamo il volo," by NaikMan & Ghiro.
- Participation in the single "A great friend," by Adam.
2014:
In 2014 there is the release of the single and related video clip of "This time not" for the cantonal project against youth indebtedness (Division of Social Action & DSS). Video clip made thanks to the "Audiovideo" course of the third year Bachelor in Visual Communication at SUPSI.
In addition, the video clip of the single "Capiresti Che" is released.
2015:
In 2015, a deluxe edition of "Memories of the Future" is released. Also, the video clip of the single "#SWAG PARODY," in collaboration with Mr. Gru, is released.
2016:
Release of the single and related video clip of "Se manchi te" in collaboration with Luca Birra.
Release of the single and related video clip of "Why." The video clip was shot in California at Joshua Tree National Park and in Los Angeles.
Collaboration for the single "For Charity" in collaboration with Lortex, a Rage Hoover track featured on "Rage Hoover Mixtape." Within the mixtape, among other artists featured is Italian rapper Vacca.
2017:
Collaboration for the single and related video clip of "Nevada," a track by Nico N&P.
Article on Tio.ch in which "Capiresti che" was chosen as song of the day.
Release of the single and related lyric video of "My Princess" in collaboration with SlimShot.
Performed casting for Amici at Mediaset TV studios in Rome.
2018:
Release of the single "Who are you?"
Release of the single and related video clip of "Marilyn Freestyle" in collaboration with Fisny. Song and video clip made in Genoa.
Release of the single and related video clip of "Na Jena" in collaboration with Fisny. Song and video clip made in Genoa.
Publication of the single and related video clip of "TVLKIN' TVLKIN'".
GiBi logo re-styling to the current version.
2019:
Release of the single and related video clip of "Netflix Freestyle."
Collaboration for the single of "On Mine," a track by Charlie White.
Release of the single "Stay Blessed" in collaboration with Dres.
New photoshooting by Baglyo (Matteo Baglioni).
Release of the single "Come Me."
Release of the single and related video clip of "LUV."
2020:
Publication of the freestyle "Freestyle Random #01" available only via reel on Instagram.
Release of the single "Bebecita" in collaboration with Tryned.
Release of the single "No Way" in collaboration with Poyson.
2021-2022:
Break from music for school and professional reasons.
2023:
Release second official album "IO," in which we find 16 tracks, 8 featurings and 5 languages spoken. The nationalities of the artists featured on the album include: Switzerland, Italy, France, USA, Germany, Spain.
PERSONAL THOUGHT
Music is a real means of communication. Nowadays, it is possible to listen to it with many devices: the diffusion is fast and efficient. In my opinion, the "rap/hip-hop" genre is one of the best when it comes to direct communication because, thanks to its "spoken" lyrics, it really feels like a conversation between artist and listener. Writing lyrics in which someone could mirror themselves or simply arouse emotions is a great satisfaction for me.
