Classy, primal, sensual - the sound of Grand Raspail x The Marquee blends old-school melodies with twisted guitar riffs, groovy sub-bass samples, remixed voice-overs, and rare, bloody-raw drum beats.
Grand Raspail’s voice - in English, French, Arabic... — chants and breathes soul into the music; the writing draws from the obsessions of the ‘60s and ‘70s (psychedelia, protest and
love...) and speaks in the tone of today (irony, nonchalance).
The Marquee’s drums sing, ground the groove, and set a rhythm that’s both ‘70s and streetwise;
the playing is as hypnotic as it is masterful and refined. From rhythm to melody, the duo explores and converses freely, with an overflowing energy that fits the format perfectly — a true old-school feast.
On stage, it feels like a secret gig in a smoky basement — pure Tarantino vibes. Sober, feverish, hypnotic, distinguished. You won’t escape the trance they pull you into completely.
And that sound — Jon Spencer, the godfather of New York garage blues, says it best:
“What a sound!!!!”
And yet... there are only two...
Grand Raspail x The Marquee!
